Naval Covers

Postmarks

Within each set, the postmarks should be listed in order of their classification type. If more than one postmark has the same classification, then they should be further sorted by date of earliest known usage.

A postmark should not be included unless accompanied by a close-up image and/or an image of a cover showing that postmark. Date ranges MUST be based ONLY ON COVERS IN THE MUSEUM and are expected to change as more covers are added.

USS UNION earned the China Service Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, the Navy Occupation Service Medal (with Asia clasp), the National Defense Service Medal (2 awards), the Korean Service Medal w/2 battle stars, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (4 awards), the Vietnam Service Medal w/ 6 campaign stars, the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation Ribbon (10 awards), the Philippines Liberation Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal during her Naval career.

NAMESAKE - A name used to refer to the United States.

Four ships of the US Navy have borne the name UNION - USS Union (1842 steam ship), USS Union (1846 schooner), USS Union (1861 screw steamer) and USS Union (AKA-106).
