Postmarks

Within each set, the postmarks should be listed in order of their classification type. If more than one postmark has the same classification, then they should be further sorted by date of earliest known usage.

A postmark should not be included unless accompanied by a close-up image and/or an image of a cover showing that postmark. Date ranges MUST be based ONLY ON COVERS IN THE MUSEUM and are expected to change as more covers are added.

NAMESAKE - Rear Admiral Isaac Campbell Kidd Sr., USN (March 26 1884 - December 7 1941).
On Dec. 7, 1941, RAdm. Kidd was killed in action on board USS ARIZONA during Japanese Navy’s attack on Pearl Harbor . RAdm. Kidd was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions during the Pearl Harbor attack. He was the first flag officer to lose his life in World War II, and the first in the U.S. Navy to meet death in action against any foreign enemy

Three ships of the US Navy have been named in his honor; USS KIDD DD-661, USS KIDD DD/DDG-993 and USS KIDD DDG-100.
