Other Information

USS BRUMBY earned the Coast Guard Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon, the Navy Expeditionary Medal (w/ 1 star), the National Defense Service Medal and the Navy Sea Service Deployment Ribbon during her Naval service.

NAMESAKE - Named in honor of Lieutenant Thomas M. Brumby, USN, and his nephew, Admiral Frank Hardeman Brumby, USN (11 September 1874 - 16 July 1950).
Brumby graduated the Naval Academy in 1895 as a passed Midshipman, became Ensign on 1 July 1897 and retired as a four-star Admiral on 1 October 1938 after forty-five years of service. Brumby was a veteran of the Spanish-American War (1898), the Philippine-American War (1899) and World War I.

The ships sponsor was Misses Muriel T. Fitzgerald and Cornelia Truxtun Fitzgerald, Adm. Brumby’s granddaughters.
