Naval Covers

This section lists active links to the pages displaying covers associated with the ship. Other Information

NAMESAKE - Vice Admiral John Duncan Bulkeley, USN (August 19 1911 – April 6 1996).
Bulkeley received the Medal of Honor for actions in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He was also the PT boat skipper who evacuated General MacArthur from Corregidor in the Philippines.
Bulkeley retired from the Navy in 1988, after 55 years of service and his awards received are: The Medal of Honor, the Navy Cross Medal, the Distinguished Service Cross Medal w/ one bronze oak leaf cluster, the Navy Distinguished Service Medal w/ two 5⁄16" Gold Stars, the Silver Star Medal w/ one 5⁄16" Gold Star, the Legion of Merit Medal w/ Combat "V" and one 5⁄16" Gold Star, the Purple Heart Medal w/ one 5⁄16" Gold Star, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Combat Action Ribbon w/ two 5⁄16" Gold Stars, the Navy Presidential Unit Citation Ribbon, the Army Presidential Unit Citation w/ one bronze oak leaf cluster, the China Service Medal, the American Defense Service Medal w/ Fleet Clasp, the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal w/ three 3⁄16" Bronze Stars, the European–African–Middle Eastern Campaign Medal w/ two 3⁄16" Bronze Stars, the World War II Victory Medal, the National Defense Service Medal w/ one 3⁄16" Bronze Star, the Korean Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Overseas Service Ribbon, the Distinguished Conduct Star medal with Silver Star (Philippines), the Croix de Guerre Medal with Palm (France), the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation Ribbon, the Philippine Defense Medal, the United Nations Korea Medal, the Republic of Korea War Service Medal, the Navy Expert Rifleman Medal and the Navy Expert Pistol Shot Medal. VAdm Bulkeley also earned the Surface Warfare Officer Insignia.

The ship sponsors include: three daughters of Vice Adm. Bulkeley: Joan Bulkeley Stade, of Oak Brook, Ill.; Regina Bulkeley Day, of York, Neb.; Diana Bulkeley Lindsay, of Olney, Md; one daughter-in-law, Carol A. Bulkeley, of Virginia Beach, Va.; and Sarah C. Fargo, wife of Adm. Thomas B. Fargo, Commander-in-Chief, U.S. Pacific Fleet.
