Other Information

USS CORREGIDOR earned the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal w/ 4 Battle stars, the World War II Victory Medal, the Navy Occupation Service Medal w/ "Europe" clasp, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the United Nations Korean Medal and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal during her Naval career.

NAMESAKE - An island of the northern Philippines at the entrance to Manila Bay. Despite a heroic defense, Filipino and U.S. troops were forced to surrender the fortified island to Japan in May 1942. U.S. paratroopers recaptured the island in March 1945.

The ships sponsor was Mrs. J. Hallett.
