Other Information

USS TUSCALOOSA earned the Navy Combat Action Ribbon, the China Service Medal, the American Defense Service Medal w/ "A" Clasp, the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal w/ 2 Battle stars, the European-African-Middle Asian Campaign Medal w/ 5 Battle stars, the World War II Victory Medal, the World War II Occupation Medal w/ JAPAN Clasp and the Philippine Presidential Unit Citation Ribbon during her Naval career.

NAMESAKE - Named for the city of Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

The ships sponsor was Mrs. Thomas Lee McCann, wife of Lt. Thomas L. McCann and the niece of the Hon. William B. Oliver, Representative of the 6th District of Alabama.

Two ships of the US Navy have borne the name TUSCALOOSA - USS Tuscaloosa CA-37 and USS Tuscaloosa LST-1187.
