Naval Covers

USS THACH earned the Joint Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon, the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, the Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon w/ 3 stars, the Coast Guard Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon, the Navy Battle "E" Ribbon (2 awards), the National Defense Service Medal w/ 1 star, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal w/ 2 stars, the Southwest Asia Service Medal, the Global War On Terror Expeditionary Service Medal, the Humanitarian Service Ribbon and the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon during her Naval career.

NAMESAKE - Admiral John Smith Thach, USN (April 19, 1905 – April 15, 1981)
        Thach was a World War II naval aviator, air combat tactician, air combat Ace, and United States Navy admiral. During World War II, he invented the Thach Weave dog fighting tactic and later the Big Blue Blanket, an aerial defense against Kamikaze attacks.

The ships sponsor is Mrs. Madalynn Thach, the wife of Admiral John Thach.
