Ship Name and Designation History
This section lists the names and designations that the ship had during its lifetime. The list is in chronological order.
- Fletcher Class Destroyer
- USS HICKOX DD-673
Commissioned September 10 1943 - Decommissioned December 10 1946
Recommissioned May 19 1951 - Decommissioned December 20 1957
Struck from Naval Register June 2 1975
- ROK PUSAN DD-913 (South Korean Naval Service)
Transferred to South Korea November 15 1968 and renamed
Stricken by South Korea 1989 and broken up for scrap
Keel Laid March 12 1943 - Launched July 4 1943
This section lists active links to the pages displaying covers associated with the ship. There should be a separate set of pages for each incarnation of the ship (ie, for each entry in the "Ship Name and Designation History" section). Covers should be presented in chronological order (or as best as can be determined).
Since a ship may have many covers, they may be split among many pages so it doesn't take forever for the pages to load. Each page link should be accompanied by a date range for covers on that page.

Postmarks
This section lists examples of the postmarks used by the ship. There should be a separate set of postmarks for each incarnation of the ship (ie, for each entry in the "Ship Name and Designation History" section). Within each set, the postmarks should be listed in order of their classification type. If more than one postmark has the same classification, then they should be further sorted by date of earliest known usage.
A postmark should not be included unless accompanied by a close-up image and/or an
image of a cover showing that postmark. Date ranges MUST be based ONLY ON COVERS IN
THE MUSEUM and are expected to change as more covers are added.
>>> If you have a better example for any of the postmarks, please feel free to replace the
existing example.

HICKOX received 9 battle stars for her World War II service and 2 for her Korean service
NAMESAKE - Ralph Hickox USMC/USN (August 29 1903 - February 18 1942)
Enlisting in the United States Marine Corps September 23 1921, he was appointed to Annapolis July 18 1923 and commissioned Ensign June 2 1927. In the peacetime Navy Hickox served in a variety of ships and stations and was finally appointed commanding officer of the Destroyer USS TRUXTUN DD-229 on October 3 1941. He had been commissioned Lieutenant Commander July 1 of that year. When his ship went aground in heavy seas off St. Lawrence, Newfoundland, February 18 1942, Lt. Comdr. Hickox remained on the bridge directing rescue operations in a cool and fearless manner which inspired the officers and men under him and was instrumental in effecting the rescue of many of the members of his crew. Tragically Lt. Commander Hickox was swept from the bridge by the pounding seas and lost. 119 members of her crew lost their lives in the heavy seas and with the assistance of the local residents 33 survivors were rescued
