Other Information

USS CHEMUNG earned the China Service Medal, the American Defense Service Medal w/ Fleet clasp, the American Campaign Medal, the Europe-Africa-Middle East Campaign Medal w/ 2 battle stars, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, the Navy Occupation Medal w/ Asia clasp, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal w/ 4 battle stars, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal w/ 3 bronze stars, the Vietnam Service Medal w/ 8 campaign stars, the United Nations Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal during her Naval career.

NAMESAKE - A river in New York.

The ships sponsor was Miss Howard.

Two ships of the US Navy have borne the name CHEMUNG - USS Chemung AT-18 and USS Chemung AO-30.
