Naval Covers

This section lists active links to the pages displaying covers associated with the ship. There should be a separate set of pages for each name of the ship (for example, Bushnell AG-32 / Sumner AGS-5 are different names for the same ship so there should be one set of pages for Bushnell and one set for Sumner). Other Information

USS BRIDGET earned the National Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal w/ 1 star, the Vietnam Service Medal w/ 2 Battle stars and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal during her Naval career.

NAMESAKE - Captain Francis Joseph Bridget, USN (2 August 1897 - 15 December 1944)
Bridget graduated from the Academy in 1921. He was designated a Naval Aviator 13 April 1929. He was serving on the staff of Commander, Patrol Wing 10, when the Japanese attacked the Philippines 8 December 1941. Following the attack he joined the American forces on Bataan and was reported to be a prisoner of war on 17 June 1943. Captain Bridget was killed 15 December 1944 when a Japanese prison ship in which he was embarked was sunk off Olongapo, Luzon, Philippine Islands. He was posthumously appointed Captain by the Secretary of the Navy on 28 August 1945 and he was also awarded the Legion of Merit posthumously. Capt. Bridget was previously awarded the Navy Cross and the Army Silver Star Medals for heroism and gallantry.

The ships sponsor was Mr. Francis J. Bridget, widow of Captain Bridget.
