Naval Covers

The mail clerk used slugs instead of lettering in the killer bars, and it is tied together with string.

 

Other Information

NAMESAKE - Named for the state of South Carolina.

The ships sponsor was Miss Frederica Ansel.

Five ships of the US Navy have borne the name SOUTH CAROLINA - USS South Carolina (1798 Schooner), USS South Carolina (1799 Coastal Patrol Vessel), USS South Carolina (1860 Screw Steamer), USS South Carolina BB-26 and USS South Carolina CGN-37.
