Naval Covers

This section lists active links to the pages displaying covers associated with the ship. There should be a separate set of pages for each name of the ship (for example, Bushnell AG-32 / Sumner AGS-5 are different names for the same ship so there should be one set of pages for Bushnell and one set for Sumner). Postmarks

Within each set, the postmarks should be listed in order of their classification type. If more than one postmark has the same classification, then they should be further sorted by date of earliest known usage.

A postmark should not be included unless accompanied by a close-up image and/or an image of a cover showing that postmark. Date ranges MUST be based ONLY ON COVERS IN THE MUSEUM and are expected to change as more covers are added.

Locy Type 7z

1944-01-08

As YAG-29, which technically was her name. However even after almost 15 years of "retirement," the sailor still referred to her as the Algonquin. The ship had no postal facilities.

 

Other Information

USCG ALGONQUIN / YAG-29 earned the World War I Victory Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal during her career.

NAMESAKE - An American Indian tribe which inhabited the area of the Ottawa River valley.

Two ships of the US Navy/Coast Guard have borne the name ALGONQUIN - USS Algonquin (1863 Gunboat) and USRS Algonquin (1897 Revenue Cutter)
