This section lists the names and designations that the ship had during its lifetime. The list is in chronological order.

Antigua Class Stores Ship Built 1931-32 at Bethlehem Ship Building Corp, Quincy, MA Launched (date unknown) ANTIGUA (Commercial Service) Completed 1932 and delivered to United Fruit Company for commercial service Acquired by Maritime Commission December 26 1941 Acquired by U.S. Navy December 28 1941 ANTIGUA AF-17 Designated AF-17, never commissioned Returned to the War Shipping Administration (WSA), 25 December 1942 ANTIGUA (Cargo Ship) Operated by United Fruit Company under WSA contract ANTIGUA (Commercial Service) Returned to the United Fruit Company on 17 March 1947 and resumed commercial service TORTUGA (Commercial Service) Sold December 1957 to the Swedish Salen Line and renamed Scrapped in 1964

Since a ship may have many covers, they may be split among many pages so it doesn't take forever for the pages to load. Each page link should be accompanied by a date range for covers on that page.

Postmarks

This section lists examples of the postmarks used by the ship. There should be a separate set of postmarks for each name and/or commissioning period. Within each set, the postmarks should be listed in order of their classification type. If more than one postmark has the same classification, then they should be further sorted by date of earliest known usage.

A postmark should not be included unless accompanied by a close-up image and/or an image of a cover showing that postmark. Date ranges MUST be based ONLY ON COVERS IN THE MUSEUM and are expected to change as more covers are added.

American Campaign Medal - World War II Victory Medal

NAMESAKE...An island of the Leeward group of West Indies. Discovered by Columbus in 1493 and settled by English subjects from St. Christopher in 1632, Antigua is a self-governing state within the Commonwealth of Nations.
