USS DOUGLAS A. MUNRO DE-422 earned the following awards during her Naval career - Combat Action Ribbon, China Service Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal w/ 4 stars, World War II Victory Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal w/ 3 stars, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon w/ 1 star, United Nations Korea Service Medal and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.

NAMESAKE - Douglas Albert Munro, born October 11 1919 in Vancouver, Canada, enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard September 18 1939. Signalman First Class Munro was posthumously awarded The Medal of Honor for his gallantry during the daring evacuation of the beleaguered Marines from Point Cruz, Guadalcanal, leading the boats to the beach and then placing his craft as a shield between the beachhead and Japanese fire which took his life September 27 1942, just before the evacuation was completed.
