Postmarks

Within each set, the postmarks should be listed in order of their classification type. If more than one postmark has the same classification, then they should be further sorted by date of earliest known usage.

A postmark should not be included unless accompanied by a close-up image and/or an image of a cover showing that postmark. Date ranges MUST be based ONLY ON COVERS IN THE MUSEUM and are expected to change as more covers are added.

Censored, Sailor's Mail. Airmail rate. The date of use is based on research, and the opinions of others, based on when and where the ship was and the type of censoring device used. However, this postmark could have applied at a shore station. Postmark enhanced for viewing purposes.

Other Information

LACKAWANNA received the following awards during her US Navy career - American Campaign Medal - Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal (with eight battle stars) - World War II Victory Medal - Navy Occupation Service Medal (with Asia clasp) - Philippines Liberation Medal.

USS Lackawanna AO-40 was manned by the US Coast Guard during World War II.

NAMESAKE - A river in Pennsylvania.
