Naval Covers

Other Information

USS MELLETTE earned the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal (w/ 2 Battle stars), the World War II Victory Medal, the Navy Occupation Service Medal (w/ Asia clasp) and the National Defense Service Medal during her Naval career.

NAMESAKE - A county in southern South Dakota named for Arthur C. Mellette, the first Governor of the State.

The ships sponsor was Mrs. Clarissa Bickford.
