Other Information

USS FRANKLIN earned the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal w/ 4 Battle stars, the World War II Victory Medal, the Philippine Presidential Unit Citation Ribbon and the Philippine Liberation Medal during her Naval career.

NAMESAKE - Named for the previous ships named FRANKLIN.

The ships sponsor was Lieutenant Commander Mildred H. McAfee, USNR, Director of the WAVES.

There have been 5 ships in the US Navy that have borne the name FRANKLIN - USS Franklin (1775, 6-gun schooner), USS Franklin (1795, 8-gun brig), USS Franklin (1815, 74-gun ship of the line), USS Franklin (1864, screw frigate)
and USS Franklin CV-13.
