Other Information

CHICAGO earned the Navy Combat Action Ribbon, the American Defense Service Medal w/Fleet Clasp, the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal w/ 3 Battle stars and the World War II Victory Medal during her Naval career.

NAMESAKE - Named for the city of Chicago, Illinois

The ships sponsor was Miss. Elizabeth Britten, sister of Representative Frederick A. Britten of Illinois, Chairman of the House Committee on Naval Affairs.

Four ships of the US Navy ships have borne the name CHICAGO, USS Chicago IX-5, USS Chicago CA-29, USS Chicago CG-11 and USS Chicago SSN-721.
