Other Information

USS ARKANSAS earned the American Defense Service Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the Europe-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal w/ 2 Battle Stars, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal w/ 2 Battle stars and the World War II Victory Medal during her Naval career.

NAMESAKE - Named for the State of Arkansas.

Four ships of the US Navy have borne the name ARKANSAS - USS Arkansas (Screw Steamer 1863), USS Arkansas BM-7, USS Arkansas BB-33 and USS Arkansas CGN-41

The ships sponsor was Miss Nancy Louise Macon
