USS ALCYONE earned the Combat Action Ribbon, the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, the American Defense Service Medal w/ "A" device, the American Campaign Medal, the Europe-Africa-Middle East Campaign Medal w/ 1 Battle star, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal w/ 7 Battle stars, the World War II Victory Medal, the Navy Occupation Medal w/ Asia Clasp, the Philippines Presidential Unit Citation Ribbon and the Philippine Liberation Medal (2 awards) during her Naval career.

NAMESAKE - Named for the brightest star in the constellation Pleiades.

The ships sponsor was Miss Barbara Ann Moore.
