Naval Covers

Other Information

USS CURTISS earned the Combat Action Ribbon, the American Defense Service Medal (with Fleet clasp), the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal w/ 7 Battle stars, the World War II Victory Medal, the Navy Occupation Service Medal (with Asia clasp), the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the Antarctic Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal during her Naval career.

NAMESAKE - Named in Honor of Glenn Hammond Curtiss (21 May 1878 - 23 July 1930) the renowned pioneer in aviation. He set many aeronautical records and designed several types of planes. Curtiss trained many of the early naval aviators and established a firm to manufacture aircraft.

The ships sponsor was Mrs. H. S. Wheeler.
