Naval Covers

Other Information

USS PETERSON earned the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon, the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon and three Battle "E" awards during her Naval career.

NAMESAKE - LCDR Carl Jerrold Peterson, USN (31 October 1936 – 2 April 1969)
         Peterson graduated from the U.S. Navy Academy and served as Operations Officer aboard USS OGDEN LPD-5 from 1967 until his transfer to the Reverie Forces in South Vietnam. Peterson was the commanding officer of Patrol River Boat Squadron 57. He was killed April 2 1969 when one of the boats which he commanded came under enemy attack. LCDR Peterson was a highly respected officer and will be remembered by the officers and men of USS OGDEN as one who gave his best to every task. LCDR Peterson was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star Medal with Combat Distinguishing Device.
