Naval Covers

USS Austin earned two Secretary of the Navy Letters of Commendation, the Joint Meritorious Unit Award Ribbon, the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon w/ 1 bronze star, the Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon, the Navy Battle "E" Ribbon (5 awards), the Navy Expeditionary Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal w/ 1 bronze star, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal w/ two bronze stars, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal and the Armed Forces Service Medal w/ one silver and one bronze star during her Naval career.

NAMESAKE - Named for the city of Austin, Texas.

The ships sponsor was Miss Lynda Bird Johnson, the daughter of President of the United States, Lyndon B. Johnson.
