Naval Covers

Within each set, the postmarks should be listed in order of their classification type. If more than one postmark has the same classification, then they should be further sorted by date of earliest known usage.

A postmark should not be included unless accompanied by a close-up image and/or an image of a cover showing that postmark. Date ranges MUST be based ONLY ON COVERS IN THE MUSEUM and are expected to change as more covers are added.

Other Information

MADDOX earned 4 Battle Stars for her WWII service and 6 Battle Stars for her Korean War service.

NAMESAKE - William A. T. Maddox (1814 - January 1 1889)
Maddox commanded a volunteer company in the Creek and Seminole Wars in 1836, and was appointed 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps October 14 1837. Serving in the Mexican War, he was breveted Captain for "gallant and meritorious conduct" as Military Commandant of the Middle District of California during a Mexican uprising at Monterrey and during the Battle of Santa Clara, January 3 1847. Captain Maddox retired in 1880 and died in Washington, D.C., January 1 1889.
