Keel Laid 5 September 1941 as (AVG-14) - Launched 4 April 1942 Redesignated (ACV-14) 20 August 1942 See HMS FENCER D-64 Returned to the United States 21 December 1946 and sold 30 December 1947 Converted to a passenger ship and renamed SS Sydney (Italian flag), 1950. Renamed SS Roma (1967), SS Galaxy Queen (1970), SS Lady Tina (1973), SS Caribia 2 (1973). Scrapped at La Spezia, Italy, starting September 1975 |

NAMESAKE - Named after a sound off the North Carolina coast.
Two ships of the US Navy have borne the name CROATAN - USS Croatan CVE-14 and USS Croatan CVE-25.
HMS FENCER earned the following Battle Honours - Atlantic 1943-1944 — Norway 1944 — Arctic 1944 — Pacific 1945.
