Sold for scrapping, 25 July 1950. Scrapped 1951
Page 34 of Lloyd's Casualty Returns for 1950 has an entry for "Alcor (ex Dixie)" indicating it was broken up sometime "during the Quarter ended 31st December, 1950"

 

Conflicting History Data

NavSource says that in 1946 the ship was "transferred to the Maritime Administration for lay up in the National Defense Reserve Fleet, James River Group, Lee Hall, VA."

Wikipedia says the ship was "sold on 6 August 1946"

However, the 1948-1950 editions of Lloyd's Register of Shipping have an entry for DIXIE (with the same Official Number as before)
and listing the owner as "United States Maritime Commission".
This does not necessarily conflict with NavSource as the NavSource wording leaves wiggle room for the ship not actually being laid up.

 

Naval Covers

Postmarks

This section lists examples of the postmarks used by the ship. There should be a separate set of postmarks for each incarnation of the ship (ie, for each entry in the "Ship Name and Designation History" section). Within each set, the postmarks should be listed in order of their classification type. If more than one postmark has the same classification, then they should be further sorted by date of earliest known usage.

A postmark should not be included unless accompanied by a close-up image and/or an image of a cover showing that postmark. Date ranges MUST be based ONLY ON COVERS IN THE MUSEUM and are expected to change as more covers are added.
