Other Information

USS KYNE earned the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal w/ 6 battle stars, the World War II Victory Medal, the Navy Occupation Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon w/ 1 bronze star during her Naval career.

NAMESAKE - Ensign Elden Francis Kyne, USN (4 June 1910 - 9 August 1942)
Kyne enlisted in the Navy 1 February 1929. He was appointed Machinist 15 April 1941. Reporting on board USS Astoria CA-34 8 August 1941, Kyne was commissioned Ensign 15 June 1942. Ens. Kyne was killed in action 9 August 1942, when USS Astoria was sunk by Japanese naval forces during the battle of Savo Island.

The ships sponsor was Mrs. Alma Marion Kyne, widow of Ens. Kyne.
