Placed out of service July 15, 2009
Sold for scrap in August 2009

Postmarks

Within each set, the postmarks should be listed in order of their classification type. If more than one postmark has the same classification, then they should be further sorted by date of earliest known usage.
A postmark should not be included unless accompanied by a close-up image and/or an
image of a cover showing that postmark. Date ranges MUST be based ONLY ON COVERS IN
THE MUSEUM and are expected to change as more covers are added.

NAMESAKE - Private First Class James Anderson, Jr., USMC (January 22 1947 – February 28 1967)
Private First Class James Anderson, Jr was a United States Marine who was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for heroism while serving in Vietnam in February 1967. When his Medal of Honor was awarded on August 21 1968, he became the first African-American U.S. Marine recipient of the Medal of Honor.
PFC Anderson was assigned as a rifleman with Company F, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marines, 3rd Marine Division.
PFC Anderson medals and decorations include: the Medal of Honor, the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with one bronze star, the Vietnamese Military Merit Medal, the Vietnamese Gallantry Cross with Palm, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.
