HISTORICAL NOTE
The Naval Ammunition Depot, New Orleans, Louisiana, was commissioned 1 December 1942. Covering 3,351 acres, it cost $2,960,000; 21 officers, 175 enlisted men, 435 Marines, and 169 civilians constituted its manpower complement. The depot was responsible for the storage of and issue of adequate amounts of all types of ammunition required by merchant and Naval vessels and shore activities in the surrounding area. The Depot closed in 1956.
