HISTORICAL NOTE
The Lend-Lease program with Britain gave the US a series of bases from Iceland, through the Caribbean to South America. British Guiana, now named Guyana, is located on the North East top of South America, on the Atlantic Ocean. Its neighbors are Venezuela, Brazil, and Suriname (formerly Dutch Guiana) to the west, south and east respectively. During WWII, the Navy built a Sea Plane base that also had blimps near the capital city of Georgetown. The mission was to patrol the ocean with Seaplanes and blimps to detect Nazi U-boats. The Marine Detachment was stationed at NAS British Guiana, South America.
