Naval Covers

Other Information

USS PONCHATOULA earned the Joint Meritorious Unit Award Ribbon, the Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon, the Navy Battle "E" Ribbon (3 awards), the Navy Expeditionary Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (3 awards), the Vietnam Service Medal w/ 12 Campaign stars, the Southwest Asia Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Kuwait Liberation Medal (Kuwait) during her Naval career.

NAMESAKE - A river which rises in Tangipahao Parish, La., and flows into the Natalbany River.

The ships sponsor was Mrs. I. N. Kiland.
