Naval Covers

Other Information

USS AULT earned the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal w/ 5 Battle Stars, the World War II Victory Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal w/ 2 Campaign Stars and the Vietnam Campaign Medal during her Naval career.

USS AULT DD-698 was at Tokyo Bay on 2 September 1945 for the Japanese surrender

NAMESAKE - Commander William Bowen Ault, USN (6 October 1898 – 8 May 1942)
As Air Group Commander of USS Lexington CV-2, Ault led his fighter group in successful attacks on Japanese Carriers IJNS SHOHO and IJNS SHOKAKU during The Battle of Coral Sea. Ault's plane was damaged in the attacks and attempted to return to USS Lexington only to discover that she was ablaze. Ault's attempt to reach USS Yorktown CV-5, and safety, failed as he was never heard from again.

The ships sponsor was Mrs. Margaret U. Ault, the widow of Comdr. Ault.
