Naval Covers

Other Information

USS JOHN R. PIERCE earned 1 Battle Star for her Korean War service.

NAMESAKE - Lieutenant Commander John Reeves Pierce, USN
Pierce commanded the USS ARGONAUT SM-1 a transport submarine, which was lost during battle in January of 1943. Lt. Comdr. Pierce was posthumously awarded the Navy Cross.

The ships sponsor was Mrs. Mary Taylor Pierce, widow of Lt. Comdr. Pierce.
