Other Information
USS UPSHUR earned the World War I Victory Medal, the Yangtze Service Medal, the American Defense Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the European, African, Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal during her Naval career.
NAMESAKE - Admiral John Henry Upshur, USN (5 December 1823 - 30 May 1917)
Admiral Upshur was a veteran of the Mexican-American War and the American Civil War.
The ships sponsor was Mrs. Alexander Gustavus Brown, the granddaughter of Rear Admiral Upshur.
