USS MATAGORDA earned the American Campaign Medal, the Europe-Africa-Middle East Campaign Medal, the World War II Victory Medal and the National Defense Service Medal during her Naval career.
NAMESAKE - Matagorda Island in Texas.
There has been two cutters in the US Coast Guard that have borne the name MATAGORDA - USCGC Matagorda WHEC-373 and USCGC Matagorda WPB-1303
