Other Information

USS CONYNGHAM was awarded the Navy Expeditionary Medal in 1983 and the Coast Guard Meritorious Unit Commendation Medal in 1986. She was awarded the Battle Efficiency "E" in 1964, 1965, 1969 and 1989

NAMESAKE - Gustavus Conyngham (about 1744 – November 27 1819) was born in County Donegal, Ireland, and was a merchant sea captain, Captain in the Continental Navy and a privateer.

Three ships of the US Navy have been named CONYNGHAM - USS Conyngham DD-58, USS Conyngham DD-371 and USS Conyngham DDG-17.

The ships sponsor was Mrs. Carl B. Albert, wife of Representative Albert of Oklahoma, House Majority Leader.
