Postmarks

Within each set, the postmarks should be listed in order of their classification type. If more than one postmark has the same classification, then they should be further sorted by date of earliest known usage.
A postmark should not be included unless accompanied by a close-up image and/or an
image of a cover showing that postmark. Date ranges MUST be based ONLY ON COVERS IN
THE MUSEUM and are expected to change as more covers are added.

Other Information
NAMESAKE: Lieutenant Colonel John Lloyd Broome, USMC (1824 – 1898).
LtCol Broome's 40 years of service included action at Veracruz, Alvarado, and Laguna del Carmen, Mexico (1848). As senior Marine officer of the West Gulf Blockading Squadron, he played a prominent part in the capture of New Orleans and all engagements of the Squadron on the Mississippi River. He was twice wounded at the second Battle of Vicksburg during the Civil War.
