This section lists active links to the pages displaying covers associated with the ship. Within each set, the postmarks should be listed in order of their classification type. If more than one postmark has the same classification, then they should be further sorted by date of earliest known usage.
A postmark should not be included unless accompanied by a close-up image and/or an
image of a cover showing that postmark. Date ranges MUST be based ONLY ON COVERS IN
THE MUSEUM and are expected to change as more covers are added.

NAMESAKE - 2d Lt. George W. G. Boyce, Jr., USA
Boyce sacrificed his life to save men of his platoon during intense ground fighting near Afua, New Guinea, July 23 1944. While advancing to relieve a unit which was surrounded by superior enemy forces, the platoon under his command came under severe enemy fire. After a Japanese grenade dropped near his men, he threw himself upon the grenade and smothered the lethal blast with his own body, thus saving the lives of several comrades. Lt. Boyce was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor
