Other Information

O'BANNON earned 11 battle stars and the Presidential Unit Citation for her service during World War II and 3 battle stars for her Korean War service.

NAMESAKE - First Lieutenant Presley O'Bannon, USMC (1784–1850)
O'Bannon was the Marine Corps' "Hero of Derna".

Three ships of the US Navy have been named in his honor, USS O'Bannon DD-177, USS O'Bannon DD-450 and USS O'Bannon DD-987.
